Further simplification of the search results page
January 31, 2015
When Medicare released its Provider Utilization and Payment Data for physicians, we were excited to incorporate the data. We were so excited that we highlighted the data not just in each search result, but also by showing a menu to allow users to refine their searches. For example, if the user searched for "hip replacement," s/he might see an option for "total hip replacement" and another one for "partial hip replacement." Likewise, searching for "CT Scan" might see refinement options for "neck CT scan" or "chest CT scan." We specifically designed the navigational control to draw attention to the ability to refine the search results.
Over time, however, we realized that the menu added yet another way of refining the search results. In the interest of streamlining the page, we decided to combine those options with the Related Searches below. We just rolled out that change this week. If you have any comments, please let us know.
